1
Shaping
Make the shape of a word you like with the pipe cleaners. It’s easier if the word is in lower case.
2
Hanging
Hang the word from two points of a chopstick or pencil with thread, attaching the thread to the shaft with a piece of tape.
3
Pouring
Pour 750 ml of hot water from a measuring cup into a plastic bowl or container. Be sure the container is long enough to fit the word in without touching the sides. The word must be completely submerged without touching the bottom, so the container should be deep enough to hold as much water as needed.
4
Dissolving
Put on the goggles and gloves. Safety always comes first in the laboratory. Dissolve 9 spoonfuls of borax in the hot water.
5
Submerging
Submerge the word in the borax solution, suspending it by resting the pencil or chopstick from the edges of the container. The word shouldn’t touch either the sides or bottom of the container. Let sit overnight.
6
Dry
IN the morning, remove the word from the container. You’ll see how the borax dissolved in the hot water has crystallized on the pipe cleaner during the night as the water cooled. Now all you have to do is let it dry. With a magnifying glass you can discover the pretty borax crystals up close!
