1
Cut Out
Print the downloadable templates and cut out the pieces that form the
theater’s decorative crown.
2
Paste
Paste together the pieces with the glue stick, following the letter scheme of
the small drawing of the crown.
3
Measuring
Divide the long side of the cardboard into four 30 cm parts, and draw the
resulting lines with a pencil. Check it against the template with the theater’s shape.
Don’t cut anything yet!
4
Tapeing
Place the paper crown you’ve made onto the cardboard. Line up the
crown’s top with the edge of the long side of the cardboard; line up the arrow at the
bottom of piece B with the middle of the three lines you drew on the cardboard. Tape
the crown onto the cardboard with adhesive tape.
5
Outling
Outline the shape of the crown on the cardboard with a pencil.
6
Measuring
Draw a rectangle 40 cm wide x 25 cm high in the middle of the cardboard,
so that the top lines up with the bottom of the crown. This will be the opening in which
you’ll see the puppets. Remove the tape and paper crown from the cardboard.
7
Cut Out
Protect your working surface with a piece of hard cardboard or cutting mat.
Cut out the rectangle and then the shape of the theater. Consult the template scheme.
8
Mark
With the artist’s knife, gently cut into the lines drawn on either side of the
cut-out rectangle; try not to cut all the way through the cardboard, though it’s okay if you
do so. Don’t cut the crown, it should remain whole and attached to the theater. Check to
see that you can fold the cardboard along the lines you just gently cut and stand the
theater up. Now lay the cardboard flat on your working surface.
9
Paste
Reinforce the folding lines with lengths of adhesive tape.
10
Painting
Paint the entire surface of the theater with a sponge dipped in the red
tempera paint. Give it two coats. Allow to dry.
11
Drawing
With a colored permanent marker draw lines to decorate the theater. You
can copy the decorations from the small drawing of the theater on the template, or you
can invent your own.
12
Mark
Place a piece of A4-size paper in the area below the empty rectangle.
Make a mark about 5 cm in from each side of the top of the paper.
13
Paste
Glue the clothes pins onto the cardboard where you made the marks. Now
you can hang the posters announcing the day’s program. Allow to dry.Now you can perform your play! When you’re done, all you have to do is fold the sides
of the theater towards the center so it lies flat. Now you can store it away anywhere!
