How to make a Pocoyo's Surprise Easter Card!

Cut Out

Print the first page of the downloadable template on white construction paper and cut out the four parts of the card: two rectangles, the bottom of an Easter egg and a chick wearing the top of the Easter egg as a hat. The second page of the template shows how to assemble the parts so that the chick suddenly emerges from the egg.

Place

Put the big rectangle on the table in a vertical position and then put the chick onto the rectangle. Now place the small rectangle horizontally onto the larger one, aligning the lower edges of the two shapes. Finally, put the bottom of the egg 1.5 cm from the lower edge of the overlapping rectangles, so that the jagged edge of the lower part of the egg fits into the jagged edge of the chick’s “hat.”

Paste

By pulling upward on the purple tab atop the hat the chick slides up from between the rectangles and emerges from the egg. We need to make some guides so that the chick can slide up without danger of escaping. On the template’s second page you can see that the guides are two pieces that form an “L” on either side of the small rectangle. With a glue stick, paste the bottom part of the egg onto the small rectangle, as indicated above.

Measuring

Turn the small rectangle over. Place the chick onto the back so that the two parts of the egg fit together. (At this point both the egg and the chick are facing toward the work surface.) Now we’ll make the two L-shaped guides: Take a piece of construction paper (left over from cutting out the pieces of the template) about two fingers in width and about the same height as the small rectangle.

Fold

Place it along the right edge of the rectangle to make a guide for the chick. Remove 1 cm from the top (this will now give you the long part of the “L”). Fold this narrow piece in half lengthwise.

Paste

With the small rectangle still face down, paste this piece in the lower right corner with the fold toward the inside of the rectangle. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 for the left side of the card.

Measuring

Now we’re going to make the short arm of the L shape. Look at page 2 of the template and measure out a piece of construction paper about two fingers wide and long enough that the chick’s wings can pass by but not the white base below the chick.

Fold

Fold this small piece in half lengthwise.

Paste

Paste this small piece in the upper right corner of the rectangle, with the fold toward the inside. Repeat steps 7, 8 and 9 for the left side. Now the L-shaped guides are ready.

Paste

Apply glue from the glue stick only along the guides. Place the chick between them. Make sure the chick is face down toward the work surface, just like the egg. Paste the guides of the small rectangle onto the big rectangle in the same manner as you did at the beginning, making sure the chick can move freely between both parts. Now check to see that the chick can move up and down when you pull the purple tab.
