1
Cut Out
Print the first page of the downloadable template on a pink piece of regular or construction paper and cut out the parts that make up the bookmark: a large square, ears, the nose and a crown. Now cut the square as indicated in the diagram on page 2. You’ll wind up with a pointy-edged figure.
2
Fold
Fold the first triangle of the figure over the lower right corner of the square, and the second triangle over the upper left part of the square. Don’t glue it! (This step is only necessary if you are using construction paper instead of normal paper.)
3
Color
Color in the crown with yellow poster paint or crayon.
4
Paste
Pick up the square shape again and repeat the folding of step 2 above. Now, once you’ve folded down the first triangle, paste the second triangle of the figure onto the upper left corner of the square, above the first triangle which you’ve already folded down. You’ll end up with a pocket at the bottom, where you’ll put the page of the book you want to mark.
5
Paste
Paste Elly’s ears, nose and crown onto the triangle that you’ve pasted, making sure to maintain the pocket.
6
Cut
Now cut off the pointy edges sticking out behind the crown.
7
Drawing
Draw in Elly’s eyes with the permanent marker.
Done! Now you can celebrate World Book Day with your new bookmark featuring Elly.
