1
Inflating
Blow up the balloon. It doesn’t have to be completely full.
2
Gluing
Cover your work surface as this will be messy. Mix equal parts of white glue and water. Begin covering the balloon with the mixture and pasting on pieces of newspaper. Press them against the balloon and spread the glue mixture under and over the pieces of paper as you go. Let dry for a few hours. You’ve just made a paper maché globe.
3
Painting
When the globe is completely dry you can paint it with acrylic or poster paints to look like the Earth: from blue to green, from green to brown and from brown to yellow. Don’t forget the white of the two poles and clouds. Allow to dry.
4
Popping
Pop the balloon by cutting off the nib with a pair of scissors. Remove the balloon from the globe.
5
Trimming
With the scissors, trim the irregular edges at the bottom of the globe so that it can rest on a flat surface.
6
Hole punching
With the ends of the scissors punch small holes all around the globe, mimicking the lights of cities as seen from space.
7
Illuminating
Now light up the globe by putting a flashlight or small lamp inside. It’s just like the Earth lit up at night!
