Today is February 29th. It’s a unique day that happens only every 4 years. For this reason, Pato is explaining to Pocoyo what Leap Year is: Pato: How many seconds are there in 1 minute?
Pocoyo: 60 seconds!
Pato: And how many minutes are there in 1 hour?
Pocoyo: 60 minutes!
Pato: Good… and how many days are there in 1 Year?
Pocoyo: 365 days!! (Pocoyo shouts this aloud, quite sure that he is right)
Pato: Not always!! Sometimes 1 Year takes 366 days instead of 365 days…
Pocoyo: Wowww! How is this possible?
Pato: Because 2012 is a Leap Year!
Pocoyo: A what year?! Pato: A Leap Year. It’s a year containing one additional day. It happens every 4 years.
Pocoyo: Ohh! So this year we can do many more things because we have one more day. Am I right Pato?
Pato: You’re right Pocoyo! And what do you want to do with this extra day…?
Pocoyo: Hmmm…I really don’t know….. Oh, I know, I know – let’s use it to just play and have fun all day long!!
Today is a special day and Pocoyo wants to celebrate it with you. Pocoyo is very happy when he sees people loving, hugging and respecting each other.
Flowers and chocolate are the perfect gifts, but Pocoyo loves to make presents with his own hands, expressing in this way the affection he feels for his close friends. The best reward is smiling faces after giving the present.
This is the reason why Pocoyo and his friends have made you Valentine’s Day Printable Cards! Congratulate the person you love with a sweet card. Choose one of the 5 cards Pocoyo and his friends Loula, Pato, Elly and Sleepy Bird made for this romantic day:

POCOYO and his friends Elly, Loula, Pato, Sleepy Bird, Little Bird, Caterpillar and Fred certainly have been working harder today. They’ve posted 60 videos to the POCOYO YouTube channel (http://bit.ly/wzwwQJ) so that you can watch and play along with them whenever you want, providing your parents say it’s okay, of course. That means that if you missed the latest POCOYO episode on Nick Jr. either weekdays at 4p.m./1p.m. (eastern/pacific) or on weekends at 1p.m./10a.m. (eastern/pacific), or on Univision’s Planeta U on Saturday mornings at 8:30a.m., you can ask your parents to go online and visit POCOYO YouTube’s channel and still join POCOYO and his friends in their fun adventures. And you can spend today working harder to enjoy POCOYO!
But now that the holidays are over and the New Year has begun, it’s time to have some fun! How about visiting POCOYO’s website and playing some fun games? You can have your parents help you go to http://www.pocoyo.com/activities.html and download all the fun games that you can play at home. There’s one game where you try to match the footprints to the character that created them. Sometimes things look like they are easy to do, but don’t be fooled. Then you can download fun drawings to color, or you can learn to write your letters with POCOYO or Elly. You can also make a friendship box or you can try and find your way through the race maze. There’s so many fun ways to spend time with POCOYO and his friends.
Today is National Bird Day. This is a day when you can celebrate every bird you can see, or maybe even one or two special birds. Pocoyo is planning a special party today for Sleepy Bird and Little Bird. He’s going to sing them a song and make up a special dance to show them how special they are.
Did you know that each type of bird has a special song or sound that it makes and also has special colored feathers or something else that makes it stand out from the other types of birds? You can celebrate National Bird Day by trying to identify as many wild birds as you can in your neighborhood. Then you can ask your parents to help you download the coloring page at http://www.nationalbirdday.com/popups/coloring_art.php. After you color the birds on this page, have your parents help you post it to the Pocoyo Facebook page as a way to say Happy National Bird Day to Sleepy Bird and Little Bird.
Pocoyo is so excited to start a brand new year — HAPPY 2012 EVERYONE! Did you try to stay up until midnight on Saturday, so you could be awake for the very first minute of the brand new year? Pocoyo, Elly, Pato, Loula tried to stay awake, but they didn’t make it. Sleepy Bird didn’t even try! And even though they all woke up when fireworks went off to celebrate the New Year, no one bothered to get out of bed.
One of the many wonderful things about a new year is the chance to make changes in your habits, the way you do things, so that you can improve yourself and your life. It’s kind of like when you do something naughty and then ask mom or dad for a fresh start.
For example, some people start the New Year by promising to eat healthier because maybe they ate too much candy over the holidays. Some people promise to play more and have more fun because they spent too much time working in the old year. These promises are called “resolutions.” Do you have anything that you want to do better in the new year? Pocoyo’s New Year’s resolution is to have more fun and adventures with his friends. And he hopes your New Year’s resolution is to join him every day!
Today is the perfect day to practice writing the alphabet and spelling words. And while you are doing this, your parents can help you to write Thank You notes, which are short little letters to people to thank them for giving you a gift, for visiting you during the holidays, or just to say how much you appreciate them. Writing Thank You notes is a very good habit to have and is one of the many good manners you can develop when you are little. Pocoyo writes a Thank You note to everyone who has given him a gift or done something special for him, even if he already said “thank you” in person. It doesn’t have to be a lot of words, and sometimes Pocoyo just writes Thank You and then draws a picture of himself with the gift. It’s just nice to let people know you enjoy their gift to you and that you enjoy them, too! How many Thank You notes will you write today?
Kwanzaa started yesterday. Do you know about this holiday, and do you celebrate it? Kwanzaa is a week long celebration held in the United States to honor African-American culture. It is celebrated from December 26 to January 1 each year. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is meant to think about a special topic or subject. For example, the first day of Kwanzaa is about Unity, which means coming together to share and be strong together; the second day is about Self-Determination, which means that each person is free to decide or choose for themselves. Other days of Kwanzaa focus on Collective Work and Responsibility, Family, Purpose, Creativity and Faith. Kwanzaa is also celebrated with the lighting of a candle on each of the seven days of the holiday, and ends with a big meal or feast and giving people presents. Kwanzaa was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–1967. If you celebrate Kwanzaa, share some of your holiday traditions with Pocoyo and his Facebook friends.
